How to Apply for Importer Exporter code Online

What is IEC Code ?

Importer Exporter Code is a ten digit number granted by Directorate General of Foreign Trade under Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to any bonafide person/company for carrying out import/export.




Requirements for applying IEC Code online

An application has to be submitted online at the website duly filled in along with documents

  • I know it’s hard but you will have to use Internet Explorer with java enabled and popup blocker disabled in your browser setting.

  • Scanned copy of the following in gif format (compressed version of gif format)

1. PAN (both sides)

2. applicant Photograph

3. Bank Certificate

Make sure that size of individual document requires to be submitting online in gif /pdf format should not exceed 300 KB. Exporter must have a Net banking account with one of the following designated banks


Procedures that you require to follow for the Registration

  • Collect the application First of all, you need to submit the form 2A mentioned in the Ayaat Niryaat to the department of DGFT of the respective place about the registered office of that company. You can also apply online as organized by the government of India.

  • Details of the documents All the details right from the director of the company, proprietorship banking details such as account name, other facts like the certificate of the bank should be provided along with the ANF2A. But do make sure to put the digital sign on the ANF2A form.

  • Paying the fee of IEC Once you are done with the application, you need to apply to the department of DGFT. And also, do pay the fees for the application to the Government. In the meantime, verifications will follow and in case of any change, the government will ask to rectify and revert within 15 days to the DGFT.

  • IEC generated As the Government of India ends up with the verification process, they will issue the IEC. The applicant will receive both the soft and hard copies of the generated code. Upon receival, the applicant can start the trade with the assigned IEC.

Steps to Apply online

Step 1 - Go to the website and Click on “Apply IEC Code Online” option. You will be prompted to enter your PAN. To Create a new IEC registration online in India. Fill in your details like -address including city , state, pincode , phone/fax , email, Date of Establishment, PAN date, PAN Issuing authority, Banker Name, Bank Account Number , Name and Designation of Person

Step 2 - Make a Payment of Rs. 3000 through online fund transfer from selected banks

Step 3 - Upload the documents based on your company formation (Number of documents depends on whether your company is sole proprietor, partnership, or registered) PAN Card , Photograph and Bank Certificate is mandatory for all the applicants.

Once the above documents are complete, you should get your Import Export Code in India quite fast. It is normally delivered to your address within 3 to 7 working days.
